children's ministries

The Children’s Ministry Team warmly welcomes you to Parkview United Methodist Church Children's Ministry. We invite you to become involved in the many Christ-centered programs offered in a loving, nurturing and supportive environment. Jesus said; “Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them; for to such belongs the kingdom of Heaven.” (Matthew 19:14).

Our mission is to train and nurture children so they may be filled with the light of Christ and may SHINE Christ's glory wherever they go.

S:  Study God's word

H:  Help others

I:    Involve families

N Nurture a relationship with Christ

E:   Equip to share the gospel

Children are one of God’s greatest gifts to us and we try to provide a variety of programs and activities that will introduce a child to a life of faith in God. We offer childcare and programming for nursery age through 5th grade. Children's church starts at 9:45 a.m. and ends when worship service ends. Come and join us, we anticipate your arrival.

food pantry

The Parkview United Methodist Church (PVUMC) Food Pantry was established with the mission to provide "take-home" groceries to individuals, families, and households experiencing crisis. The Food Pantry is open on the following days: Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings. Take a look inside the Pantry

We welcome all new and returning volunteers! There is a spot on a pantry team for you!! There is never a lack of things to do at the PVUMC Food Pantry. Individuals wishing to volunteer can be matched up with any number of jobs that suit them - grocery shelf stocking, hands-on service to clients, grocery shopping, office work including data entry, client registration, and a myriad of other duties.

Everyone seems to benefit from the PVUMC  Food Pantry. New friendships are created among clients, clients and volunteers, and between volunteers. It is a blessing and a privilege to serve each other in the name of the risen Christ.

If you would like to make a financial contribution to the food pantry, you may send it to:

prayer shawl ministry

Parkview's Prayer Shawl Ministry is made up of a number of ladies who was inspired with compassion for others who were hurting and in need of comfort. After hearing a speaker from another church the women's hearts were moved and a labor of love was ignited.  Read more history. They started their own shawl ministry and every stitch is prayerfully sealed with the love of Jesus Christ and His healing power. See Sample Shawls. Prayer Shawl Ministry celebrates 200th shawl given. See group picture.

The prayer shawl was the brain child ministry of Janet Bristow and Victoria Galo.  The idea was spawned from their involvement in applied Feminist Spirituality at the Hartford Seminary.  Compassion and love of knitting/crocheting have been combined into a prayerful ministry and spiritual practice which reaches out to those in need of comfort and solace.  Many blessings are prayed into every shawl. young at heart

Parkveiew United Methodist Church's dream is to promote a caring community where older adults can thrive spiritually, emotionally, socially, and physically, To help achieve such a dream we provide opportunities for fellowship, spiritual growth, social outings, and physical exercise programs. This dream includes a special ministry to our homebound community.

The fellowship and friendships of the ministry provide a support for the experience of aging, of learning how to transition the stages of growing older gracefully and, with God's help, be all that we were intended by Him to be. Young at Heart sponsors periodic monthly covered dish luncheon for meetings, planning sessions and socializing. Trips and outings are scheduled regularly throughout the year.

Older adults are very much a part of the church. They serve as ushers, greeters, and many other ways in the church. They provide assistance to various service groups. Through small circles they reach into the community nursing homes and agencies for the needy. They are one of our most effective outreach groups.

boys and girl scouts

The Boy Scouts of America (BSA) is one of the largest youth organizations in the United States, with over four million youth members in its age-related divisions. Since its founding in 1910 as part of the international Scout Movement, more than 110 million Americans have been members of the BSA.

Our goal here at Parkview UMC is to utilize our facilities to train youth in responsible citizenship, character development, and self-reliance through participation in a wide range of outdoor activities, educational programs, and, at older age levels, career-oriented programs in partnership with community organizations. For younger members, the Scout method is part of the program to inculcate typical Scouting values such as trustworthiness, good citizenship, and outdoors skills, through a variety of activities such as camping, aquatics, and hiking.

The BSA operates traditional Scouting locally through units sponsored and operated by churches, clubs, civic associations, educational organizations and the like. Units are led entirely by volunteers who are supported by local councils using both paid professionals and volunteers. See Troop 33.

stuff the bin

We are going green by recycling paper products. This makes better use of paper supplies by diverting it from landfills and into the recycling pail, in turn, we are improving our environment with less waste.  We have teamed up with the Abitibi Paper Retriever  which is a free, community-based program, with approximately 25,000 collection points in North America and the UK which actually pays schools, churches, non-profits and the like for their paper recycling efforts.

How it works is that Abitibi-Consolidated drops off their yellow and green “Paper Retriever” in highly visible, convenient areas so that people can easily drop off their newspapers, magazines, shopping catalogs and mail. The paper is then weighed by a scale on the collection truck, and a monthly statement detailing the weight of paper collected for that month is accompanied by a check for the amount collected. If you have paper, magazines, etc. feel free to drop them off at Parkview UMC, 344 Algonquin Ave., Columbus, OH in the green and yellow container located in the parking area.

five on the fifth

Five of the Fifth is a opportunity to help children through the United Methodist Children's Home with our special Fifth Sunday Offering. This is a ministry that has been helping abused, neglected, and mentally ill children for 99 years. Through our giving, we will be welcoming children across Ohio in the name of Jesus. For example, God will bless our gifts to provide a temporary home for a mentally ill teen boy at the residential center in Worthington. It provide a safe family home for a abused little girl. It also provide grief counseling for families. Last year over 500 children was helped through this ministry.

bulletJust $5 from every church member can make a huge difference in the lives of the children at the United Methodist Children's Home.
