a lack of things to do at the PVUMC Food Pantry.
Individuals wishing to volunteer can be matched up with
any number of jobs that suit them - grocery shelf

prayer
shawl ministry
Parkview's
Prayer Shawl Ministry is made up of a number of ladies who
was inspired with compassion for others who were hurting
and in need of comfort. After hearing a speaker from
another church the women's hearts were moved and a
labor of love was ignited. Read
more history. They started their own
shawl ministry and every stitch is
prayerfully sealed with the love of Jesus Christ and His
healing power. See Sample Shawls.
Prayer Shawl Ministry celebrates 200th shawl given. See
group picture.
The
prayer shawl was the brain child ministry of Janet Bristow
and Victoria Galo. The
idea was spawned from their involvement in applied
Feminist Spirituality at the Hartford Seminary.
Compassion and love of knitting/crocheting have
been combined into a prayerful ministry and spiritual
practice which reaches out to those in need of comfort and
solace. Many
blessings are prayed into every shawl. Read

young
at heart
Parkveiew United Methodist Church's dream
is to promote a caring community where older adults can
thrive spiritually, emotionally, socially, and physically,
To help achieve such a dream we provide opportunities for
fellowship, spiritual growth, social outings, and physical
exercise programs. This dream includes a special ministry
to our homebound community.
The fellowship and friendships of the
ministry provide a support for the experience of aging, of
learning how to transition the stages of growing older
gracefully and, with God's help, be all that we were
intended by Him to be. Young at Heart sponsors periodic
monthly covered dish luncheon for meetings, planning
sessions and socializing. Trips and outings are scheduled
regularly throughout the year.
Older adults are very much a part of the
church. They serve as ushers, greeters, and many other
ways in the church. They provide assistance to various
service groups. Through small circles they reach into the
community nursing homes and agencies for the needy. They
are one of our most effective outreach groups.
boys
and girl scouts
The Boy Scouts of America (BSA) is one
of the largest youth organizations in the United States, with over four
million youth members in its age-related divisions. Since
its founding in 1910 as part of the international Scout
Movement, more than 110 million Americans have
been members of the BSA.
Our goal here at Parkview UMC is to
utilize our facilities to train youth in responsible
citizenship, character development, and self-reliance
through participation in a wide range of outdoor
activities, educational programs, and, at older age
levels, career-oriented programs in partnership with
community organizations. For younger members, the Scout
method is part of the program to inculcate typical
Scouting values such as trustworthiness, good citizenship,
and outdoors skills, through a variety of activities such
as camping, aquatics, and hiking.
The BSA operates traditional Scouting
locally through units sponsored and operated by churches,
clubs, civic associations, educational organizations and
the like. Units are led entirely by volunteers who are
supported by local councils using both paid professionals and volunteers.

stuff
the bin
We are going green by recycling paper
products. This makes better use of
paper supplies by diverting it from landfills and into the
recycling pail, in turn, we are
improving our environment with less waste. We have
teamed up with the Abitibi
Paper Retriever which is a free, community-based
program, with approximately 25,000 collection points in
North America and the UK which actually pays schools,
churches, non-profits and the like for their paper
recycling efforts.
How it works is that
Abitibi-Consolidated drops off their yellow and green
“Paper Retriever” in highly visible, convenient areas
so that people can easily drop off their newspapers,
magazines, shopping catalogs and mail. The paper is then
weighed by a scale on the collection truck, and a monthly
statement detailing the weight of paper collected for that
month is accompanied by a check for the amount collected.
If you have paper, magazines, etc. feel free to drop them
off at Parkview UMC, 344 Algonquin Ave., Columbus, OH in
the green and yellow container located in the parking
area.
